Pawtucket Times Review
CUMBERLAND -- Just over 50 hours removed from four premier outings registered at the Max Read Memorial/Watmough Invitational Championships at Brown University on Saturday, East Providence High standouts Justin Leary and Colin Fisher each captured a pair of individual events to pace the Townies to a tight 52-42 victory over Lincoln High at the Boys and Girls Club of Cumberland-Lincoln natatorium on Monday afternoon.

It wasn’t either aquaman’s goal to produce lifetime-best clockings, but only to help EP remain unbeaten in newly-named Alice Sullivan Division-North. With Leary, a senior captain, taking the 200-yard freestyle 1:57.14) and 100-yard backstroke (59.16) and the sophomore Fisher adding wins in the 200 individual medley (2:16.37) and 100 butterfly (1:03.13), the Townies did just that, improving to 3-0.

In the boys’ venture, the verdict went down to the final 400 freestyle relay. Had the Lions garnered first and second, the result would have been a 47-47 stalemate. But the Townies’ quartet of Sean McBride, Brian Lebowski, Fisher and Leary reigned in 3:54.43.
Fisher clocked a relay-best split of 51.80, and the anchor Leary 52.81.

"With the boys, I knew (Lincoln) had a couple of good swimmers, guys we had to worry about, but we’re very fortunate with guys like Justin and Colin," said EP mentor Sandy Gorham. "I knew I could afford to go head-to-head with their better swimmers with those guys on the blocks ..After that, I was just focused on thirds. I’ll tell you, those second- and third-line swimmers are really coming along, and that’s what winning these meets are all about."

Outside of Marc Watson, who took the 100 breaststroke with a decent time of 1:15.15, Gorham credited sophomore Sean McBride for his third in the 500 freestyle (PR of 6:11.32) and junior Gabe Ghazil for the same in the 200 individual medley (PR of 2:43.09.

What we’re trying to do with the boys’ team, because the league isn’t that dominant outside of Hendricken, is to get some great times from the third-liners, and we scored. Guys like Nathan Hurd, Nick Leimbach, Sam Lovett and Charles Manning all came up big, and they’re rounding into shape."

Fisher, Watson, Leimbach and Hurd produced an immediate win in the opening 200 medley relay (1:58.46), while the "B" relay foursome of Manning, Lovett, Ghazil and Ryan Gorham grabbed a pivotal third.

Leimbach, Hurd, Watson and Leary added a victory in the 200 freestyle relay (1:42.40) to hand EP a 37-31 cushion. Lincoln (1-2) kept it close (41-35) when Redmond Howe and Matt Parenteau went 2-3 in the 100 backstroke before that final relay.

For the Townie Girls  (1-3), junior Erika Meehen stroked to a win in the 100 freestyle (1:00.75) after placing runner-up in the 200 individual medley.
