Victory over Cranston West secures second place in Division I
The Townies posted a solid victory over Cranston West last night at Cranston
Stadium by a score of 28-6. On the legs of Corey Blair, running for injured
fullback Tom Speaks, the Townies put up 21 points in the first half. Blair ran
for 232 yards on 22 carries, averaging 10.5 yards a carry.
Three of the Townie touchdowns came on runs by Blair, while Jared
Awokande scored the fourth TD on after recovering a fumble near the goal line
and running for the score. Quarterback Nate Lovett threw for 45 yards and ran
for 33 yards on the night. In extra-point attempts, Ben Carter was perfect,
going four for four.
The Townie defense stymied the Falcons all night led by the
tenacity of Cam Ford and Jesse Blakely. Ron Woodley chipped in with two
interceptions and Kyle Markarian had one.
The Townies improve their league record to 6-1 with the win and
now are the sole owners of second place, behind undefeated LaSalle (at 7-0). The
Townies square off against the Rams on Thanksgiving Day at Pierce Field for the
the Division I crown and the top seed in the play-offs.

A conversation with Townie trainer Rob Lawton
by Mike Rego
Rob Lawton is living proof you don't
have to be born and reared in East Providence to be a Townie or at the very
least a converted one. Lawton, 38, is the trainer for the East Providence High
School football team through the Performance Physical Therapy group.

Despite cold, wind, sloppy play,
Townies top St. Ray's
On a cold night at Pariseau Field in Pawtucket, last
night, the Townies toppled St. Raphael Academy by a score of 14-6. With the win,
the Townies improve to 7-1.
Fullback Tom Speaks led the offense with 52 yards and a touchdown
in the first quarter. Speaks' score was set up by a 50-yard breakaway run by
quarterback Nate Lovett. Lovett finished the game with 61 yards on nine carries.
After allowing a St. Ray's touchdown in the second half, the
Townie defensive charge was led by Andrew Boisvert, who blocked the Saints'
extra point attempt. This kept the Townies ahead by a point.
In the fourth quarter, fullback Corey Blair added insurance with
a seven yard TD run, and Ben Carter booted the second of his two good extra
point attempts.
With a bye week this Friday, the Townies face Cranston West next
at 7:00 on Friday, November 10.

Townies dominate in 2006 Homecoming
Game
Playing in a postponed
game due to inclement weather, Saturday, the Townies came out in force and
defeated North Kingston by a score of 24-10 in EPHS's 2006 Homecoming Game.
Although the performance was marred by three fumbles in their own
territory, the Townies clinched a play-off spot with the win. Quarterback Nate
Lovett scored in the first quarter on a 72-yard touchdown run, and the Townies
kept the lead for the remainder of the ballgame.
The Townie defense played a large hand in subduing the potent
North Kingston offense, particularly on a stand in which the Skippers took over
at the Townie 18 yard line. The defense held NK to only seven yards on four
plays, which led to the offense taking over on downs.
The Townie offense closed out the second quarter with a 79-yard
drive, and kicker Ben Carter capped the effort with a 17-yard field goal. In the
third quarter, another long drive put the Townies on the NK 9-yard line, and Tom
Speaks rushed for the TD. Lovett hit Spivey in the end zone for the two point
conversion. Speaks sealed the victory in the fourth quarter with a 1-yd TD run.
The Townies square off against St. Ray's on Saturday, next week,
at Pariseau Field in Pawtucket at 1:00.

Speaks and Woodley score three each in Townies' win over Tolman
The Townies squared off against the Tolman Tigers Friday at Pierce Field,
following the second annual Townie Pride Parade. Fullback Tom Speaks lead the
offense with three touchdowns and 145 yards on 17 carries. Speaks' efforts, in
addition to Ron Woodley's three touchdowns and 40 yards on six carries, paced
the Townies in their 48-20 victory.
Quarterback Nate Lovett had a fine game and went 6-7 for 127 yards passing, in
addition to 91 yards rushing. He connected with Kyle Meehan in the second
quarter for a 16-yard touchdown reception, as well. Wide receiver Jared Awokande
had 91 yards on three receptions, and Isaac Spivey had two catches for eighteen
yards. Kicker Ben Carter was six for seven in extra point attempts.
The Townie defense kept Tolman at bay all night, and Brian Bland had two sacks,
for a total loss of 33 yards.
Next week, the Townies face North Kingston (2-2), at Pierce Field in the 2006 EP
Homecoming Game. NK beat previously-undefeated Bishop Hendricken 28-22 on
Friday, and next week's game will surely be a spirited contest.

Chemistry fuels Townies' success
by Jon Baker of the Pawtucket Times
EAST PROVIDENCE - It was just about
seven weeks ago that Sandy Gorham sat at a picnic table in the Kendbrin Swim &
Tennis Club grove raving about how this East Providence High grid squad was
different.
