East Providence v. Mt. St. Charles
In striving to get back into the win column, it is difficult to give up two points at the start of a match due to forfeiting 2nd and 3rd doubles for the second match in a row.  However, on the bright side of things besides the weather which was very cooperating, Jeff Hedden and Jamie Plume both chalked up personal victories.

Jeff made a quick day of things at 6-1, 6-2 and Jamie, as usual, had to be the last off the court. After he marched through the first set 6-2, he fell behind 5-2 and 40-Love in the second set before fighting back three set points and actually winning not only that game but the set in tie-breaker fashion 7-6 (11-9).

In his first singles match of his career, David Brites fell at 4th singles 6-1, 6-1.

After finishing the first round of play, we stand at 1-7.  This is a far cry from our beginning of the year goal of a .500 record.

East Providence v. LaSalle
For the third time this week the Townies went down in defeat 7-0.  Today's match had some more even match-ups at 2nd and 3rd singles play where both went to three sets.

Hamid Zubair battled to a first set victory in winning the tie-breaker 8-6,then he forged ahead 3-0 in the second before dropping 12 straight and the match.  It is always enjoyable watching Hamid's aggressive serve and volley play.

Once again, Jamie Plume was the lone soldier on the court in a slug fest with the tall and lanky Scott Lombardo.  After each took a set at 6-4, Jamie had the advantage at 2-1 but couldn't put anymore victories together once the momentum shifted.

Kyle Jensen for the first time played at #4 singles against against a solid player named Peter Meckel and fell in straight sets 6-0, 6-0.

Up top at #1 singles, Jeff Hedden couldn't put a dent in Jared Dorfman, who is possible the top player in the State, and had a short afternoon at 6-0, 6-0.

East Providence v. Bishop Hendricken
We were easy prey for the Hawks of Hendricken as we fell 7-0.  Jeff Hedden #1 singles put a warrior type effort in a loss against Mason Viau 6-3, 7-6 (5).  Jamie Plume and George Butler both played good tennis in their efforts in representing the Townies against a top Class A team.

April 15, 2004
East Providence v. Toll Gate
This vacation match was not very pleasant weather or competitive-wise.  The delay by the rain did not delay the pain of falling 5-2.  Even though we scored first win a Jamie Plume 6-0, 6-0 victory, our second point came when Jeff Hedden was the last to walk off the court with a three set 7-6 (1), 4-6, 6-2 victory.  For the second time in a row we had to forfeit third doubles.  That is a big point to give up with a team in which we came compete against.  At first doubles, Kyle Jensen and Dave Brites stretched out their match to three sets after reversing their first set defeat 6-3.

April 8, 2004
East Providence v. Wheeler
Today was the first time that we faced Wheeler in league competition in two years and we have always had tough, competitive matches.  However on this day it was all Wheeler as they blanked us 7-0.  Only # 3 singles Hamid Zubair was able to take a set (6-4) off his opponent, Alex Connors.

Manny Francis played # 4 singles for the first time and he pressed his opponent before losing the first set 6-4 and 6-1 in the second.

Jamie Plume # 2 singles had two match points in the first set before faltering in a long 7-5 defeat and 6-2 in the second.

Sickness, a thinning roster, and injury has put us in a less competitive posture.  However, this has given some of our younger players opportunities to get valuable court time.

East Providence vs. Barrington
Barrington soundly defeated the Townies in their first Class A match of the year, 6-1, in  blustery weather conditions.  However, the sun was a companion for most of the afternoon, and some warmth was provided through our lone victory by # 1 singles Jeff Hedden who defeated Reid Feller in two sets 6-2, 7-6 (3).

# 4 singles George Butler, # 2 doubles Isaac Spivey, and # 3 doubles Ryan Lewis all appeared in the Townie line-up for the first time.
