April 28, 2004 East Providence v. Barrington The Townie Tennis woes continue with a decisive 7-0 trouncing by the Eagles of Barrington. Jeff Hedden could not hold off a much improved performance by Reid Feller (6-2, 7-5) than the first time they played. At 2nd singles, Jamie Plume played some aggressive tennis against a tough opponent in Corey Triebwasser but came us short at 6-2, 6-3. Hamid "The Pakistanian Punisher" Zubair, took a punishing as he was served up two bageles (6-0, 6-0). Friday, we get a chance to equal our win as we face
Classical, the only team whom we have beaten this season.
April 27, 2004 Jeff made a quick day of things at 6-1, 6-2 and Jamie, as usual, had to be the last off the court. After he marched through the first set 6-2, he fell behind 5-2 and 40-Love in the second set before fighting back three set points and actually winning not only that game but the set in tie-breaker fashion 7-6 (11-9). In his first singles match of his career, David Brites fell at 4th singles 6-1, 6-1. After finishing the
first round of play, we stand at 1-7. This is a far cry from our
beginning of the year goal of a .500 record.
April 22, 2004 Hamid Zubair battled to a first set victory in winning the tie-breaker 8-6,then he forged ahead 3-0 in the second before dropping 12 straight and the match. It is always enjoyable watching Hamid's aggressive serve and volley play. Once again, Jamie Plume was the lone soldier on the court in a slug fest with the tall and lanky Scott Lombardo. After each took a set at 6-4, Jamie had the advantage at 2-1 but couldn't put anymore victories together once the momentum shifted. Kyle Jensen for the first time played at #4 singles against against a solid player named Peter Meckel and fell in straight sets 6-0, 6-0. Up top at #1 singles, Jeff Hedden couldn't put a
dent in Jared Dorfman, who is possible the top player in the State, and had
a short afternoon at 6-0, 6-0. April 21, 2004 April 19, 2004 April 15, 2004
April 8, 2004 Manny Francis played # 4 singles for the first time and he pressed his opponent before losing the first set 6-4 and 6-1 in the second. Jamie Plume # 2 singles had two match points in the first set before faltering in a long 7-5 defeat and 6-2 in the second. Sickness, a thinning roster, and injury has put us in a less
competitive posture. However, this has given some of our younger players
opportunities to get valuable court time.
At # 2 singles, Jamie Plume walked off the court first with a 6-0, 6-1 victory. Meanwhile, Jeff Hedden at #1 singles followed shortly after with his second consecutive win over Jan Zamoyski with scores of 6-1, 6-4. Giving us our third point was the #1 doubles team of Steve Mega and Manny Francis with a solid 6-2, 6-2 win. Shortly after, the match point came from another two set victory by #3 singles Hamid "The Pakistanian Punisher" Zubair at 6-4, 7-6 (3). The following two points came by the long way with two third set tie break victories by #2 doubles Isaac Spivey and Kyle Jensen 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (5) and #3 doubles Ryan Lewis and Dave "The Legend" Brites 6-1, 6-7 (6), 7-6 (3). In an exhibition match, the team of Richard Wagner and
Alex Browing posted an 8-1 Pro set victory.
# 4 singles George Butler, # 2 doubles
Isaac Spivey, and # 3 doubles Ryan Lewis all appeared in the Townie
line-up for the first time. |
